The transition to a more sustainable energy system requires a fundamentally new approach to engage the end-customer as well as various relevant stakeholders as an integral part of the energy value chain. For instance, the customer is no longer just a recipient and user of energy, but both a potential producer, storage provider and flexibility agent. At the other end of the value chain, the green transition requires adaption and new skills from the energy sector.
Smart Innovation Norway is a non-profit research and innovation company that specializes in applied research.
Our research areas are Smart Energy Systems, Smart Cities and Communities and Applied Artificial Intelligence. We focus on research projects which have a potential for business and sustainable social development. 'Our research teams are currently involved in several EU-funded, international and national projects such as SESA, Plastics2olefins, AURORAL, DREAMS, PROPOBONO, and SENDER (coordinated by Smart Innovation Norway).
We now announces the position of a
Researcher Energy Systems who will be responsible for contributing to our portfolio of Norwegian and international research and innovation projects.
The role:
- Work with EU and national funded projects.
- Develop and enhance energy systems’ optimization models & tools.
- Support proposal writing at national and international level.
- Contribute to scientific publication through journals and conferences, and related dissemination activities.
- Participate in applied research projects together with/for businesses.
Some of the technical skills in the energy domain and value chain (from generation to consumption):
- Energy systems modeling & optimization (Energy flexibility/efficiency, forecasting/scheduling).
- Smart Grid and integrations.
- Building energy management systems.
- Renewable Energy (PV, Hydrogen, Wind, Hydro Power, etc.).
- E-mobility (EV) and transport.
- Storage, battery management system.
- Environment impact assessment, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and circular economy.
- Good understanding of industrial processes and waste management, recycling.
- Business intelligence and analysis.
Software and ICT skills:
- Programming skills such as in Python and MATLAB is an advantage.
- LCA software (e.g. SimaPro, GaBi, SAP, Open LCA etc.).
- Project management software.
Personal skills:
- Versatile and flexible with a "can-do" attitude also outside of core skills.
- Capable of working effectively in both team and independent settings.
- A quick learner who adapts well to changing environments.
- Possesses strong project understanding, organizational skills and has a learning organization approach.
- Capable of managing large-scale initiatives involving multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Demonstrates a strong work ethic and high capacity.
- Committed to climate action and possesses a business-oriented mindset.
- Digitally mature and proficient.
- Bridges technology and industry to provide innovative solutions.
- Knowledge of business culture and business practices in Nordic countries.
- An interest and willingness to apply research and innovation to and with Nordic businesses.
Qualification
- MSc or Ph.D. in relevant field
- Excellent written and spoken English is a must.
- Speaking a Nordic language is an advantage – willingness to learn a Nordic language is mandatory.
